Two teachers share one room, each bringing their own style. Over four days, with two 2-hour classes a day, you get the time that one-off workshops never give you: time to stop copying the moves and start understanding them.
The camp
Depth and Breadth works differently. Each class lasts two hours, and there are two a day. That gives the teacher time to break the material down, put it back together, and let you practise it until it sticks.
This edition focuses on two styles: Afro House and Amapiano, each with its own teacher. Rubina teaches Afro House, and Kuduro with it — Kuduro is where Afro House comes from, and you cannot really understand the one without the other. Every day looks at the styles from a different angle, including the history, the groove and freestyle. On Sunday the whole group makes a dance video together, so you leave with something you made yourself, not just steps you learned.
Who it is for
You do not need to be advanced, but this is not where you start. If you already know some African street dance and you are ready to really apply yourself — to want more than the choreography, to ask where a step comes from, what it is for, why it is danced this way and not another — this is your space.
Not sure which camp is yours? Dancing African styles for a while and want to push further: the Open Level Camp. Completely new, and want a slower approach: the Beginner Camp. All three run at the same time, at the same festival, and nobody will make you feel like you chose wrong.
Line-up
Tlhogi takes Amapiano and Rubina takes Afro House — and the Kuduro underneath it, because that is where Afro House comes from. The same two all week, which is the point: you build with one teacher across four days rather than meeting six.
Schedule
The Depth and Breadth room. Two intensives a day, each with its own focus — the styles behind the music, the basic step, groove and musicality — and on the Sunday the whole group turns it into a dance video project.
Evenings are shared by all three camps. Every room side by side is on the full schedule. The festival is at Big C Barcelona, Carrer de Llull, 121, Sant Martí, 08005 Barcelona.
